Pete Buttigieg was born on January 19, 1982, in South Bend, Indiana.

Buttigieg served two terms as mayor of South Bend, Indiana from 2012 to 2020.
In 2020, he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Buttigieg was sworn in as the 19th Secretary of Transportation on February 3, 2021.
