Martavis Bryant Signs With Washington Commanders

Veteran Wide Receiver Returns to NFL After Six-Year Absence

Bryant adds size and experience to Commanders' uncertain WR room

FRISCO, Texas - Veteran wide receiver Martavis Bryant moved a step closer to his first NFL action in six years after agreeing to terms with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday morning.

Bryant, 30, last played in the NFL in 2015 for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was suspended indefinitely by the NFL in 2016 for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

After a private workout on Tuesday, the Cowboys decided to give Bryant a chance to prove himself. He is expected to compete for a spot on the Cowboys' 53-man roster.

Bryant has good size and athleticism, and he has shown flashes of being a productive receiver in the past. He had 26 catches for 586 yards and eight touchdowns in 2014, his last full season in the NFL.

The Commanders' wide receiver room is currently in flux, with Terry McLaurin being the only surefire starter. Bryant could potentially provide the Commanders with a much-needed big-bodied receiver who can make contested catches.

Bryant's signing is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Commanders. If he can stay healthy and productive, he could be a valuable addition to the offense.
